The Benefits of an Online Tutor for English

by | Dec 16, 2020 | Creative Writing

The disruption from the pandemic is real. Students of all ages are feeling overwhelmed. If your student is like any of my students, they need more support than they are currently being given in a Remote Academy learning situation.

It’s not because English isn’t being taught with the same rigor and massive efforts by teachers to foster positive and productive learning. It’s that the “classroom” looks and feels different, wherein teachers can’t guarantee that highly productive learning environment.

It’s hard to see how much of an impact is being made on your child’s educational progress, but we do use tools that help keep your student motivated and supported, with or without your cat’s assistance.

There are four specific benefits you get when you invest in an online tutor:

Alleviate Pressure Put on Parents

Parents are being asked to do the impossible: become a teacher without any training. Typical day-to-day learning is hard enough to replicate at home so don’t try to add “English teacher” to your plate. Resilience is being tested enough these days so best to leave it to a professional. Or one with a Masters in Education.

Students Get Individual Attention

Children rarely get the opportunity for one-to-one learning with their teachers in a busy classroom environment. Tutoring engages your child to advance their writing skills with active listening and the ability to actively respond to immediate questions. I also require to connect with computer cameras “on” so we can see each other.

Curriculum Support Specific to Need

Each online tutoring session can be tailored to what your child specifically needs to increase skills and confidence in writing, whether strengthening mechanics or creative expression. We ensure concepts “click” with each student.

Flexible Instruction Times

With lessons taking place at home for at least the near future, online tutoring allows for you to choose the best schedule for your student to work for 45 minutes or an hour on English assignments or brainstorm ideas for a creative writing exercise. If your student needs a house break, our office has brand new air purifiers and we strictly follow Covid-19 protocols, including mask wearing.

About Me

I grew up in Andover, Massachusetts, lucky enough to have teachers who were witty, engaging, and knowledgeable. I had a love for sports, reading and creative writing. My 9th grade English teacher saw my passion for literature and stoked it. In my report card that spring she described me as a future author who was “ebullient” in my writing as well as in my day-to-day life. That is when I realized it just takes one moment, one word, one good grade, one laugh from an audience hearing your story to turn any of us into happy writers.

I earned my Masters in teaching English at Lesley University not long after graduating as an English major at Middlebury College. Naturally, I became an English teacher and author and eventually shared my love of reading and writing with my own children. It was only a matter of time that I’d find my dream job. Write Coach has lent me the platform to help cultivate writers to become more effective and confident communicators.

When not coaching writers, Ellen is also a published author.
